Electric Freestanding and Slide-In Ranges

For any Freestanding and Slide-in electric range that is rated less

than 16.5K watts on 240 Volt circuit, a 40 amp cord and 40 amp cir-

cuit is acceptable. This is based on a demand factor that takes into

account that not all of the rating is on at the same time, “because it

is unlikely that all appliances will be utilized simultaneously or that

all cooking units and the oven of a range will be at the maximum

heat for any length of time.” (NEC 1996)

Therefore, all branded Freestanding and Slide-in models in the

lineup can be used on a 40 amp circuit and with a 40 amp approved

power cord. A 50 amp cord is also acceptable on a 40 amp service.

The Whirlpool website and literature are in the process of being up-

dated to reect this information.
